Clothes and Bed Sheets Drive in Korhogo
By Safe Hospitals Africa
On August 13, 2019, two volunteers from Safe Hospitals Africa made their way to three different hospitals — Karakoro, Tioro and Napie — all located in rural areas of Korhogo, a town in northern Ivory Coast.
The volunteers had the opportunity to interact with members of the hospitals and see first hand the difficulties faced by patients and staff because of the poor hospital conditions. As a first step toward ensuring that mothers within these hospitals had some of the basic necessities required to bring up their newborn babies, the volunteers donated more than 200 sets of baby clothing and hospital bed sheets to each hospital.
The sheets will cover the hospital beds so that both mothers and babies are in a sanitary environment. The baby clothes will be given to mothers upon delivery. This initiative aims to reduce maternal and infant mortality, as it encourages expecting mothers to consider hospitals for the delivery of their babies rather than giving birth at home in unsafe conditions.
Safe Hospitals Africa would like to thank volunteers Souleymane Coulibaly and Salif Touré, as well as every individual who donated clothing, for their contribution to creating safe hospitals in Africa.
